The Prayer Project of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal of the Archdiocese of Abuja began in 2005 with the theme – The Gideon’s Mandate. For the past four years, we have been dealing with issues that will guarantee our place in Christ here and hereafter. In 2017 we were awaken with the theme – Arise and Shine (Is. 60:1-2). We proceeded to ‘Set the Earth on Fire’ (Lk. 12:49) in 2018. We were charged in 2019 to keep the fire burning ‘Until we (I) Overcome’ (Rev. 2:26); and those who overcame are to be given a reward – The Victor’s Reward (Rev. 3:21) became our theme for 2020. The year 2021 has REIGNING WITH CHRIST (Rev. 20:4) as the theme as those who have been rewarded by God will certainly reign with Christ Jesus.
This theme in itself, gives Christians authority to seat on thrones, judge and reign with Christ (Rev. 20:4). However, those who will sit on thrones, judge and reign with Christ are those who not only bear Christian names but live as true Christians – have the nature of Christ, known to be true Christians, humble, have the knowledge of the Master, walking in love, have complete obedience and live like Christ.
The man or woman who will reign with Christ must see glory in any persecution he or she faces. Jesus said those who are persecuted for His sake are blessed (Matt. 5:10) and Apostle Peter wrote that we should be very glad for trials make us partners with Christ in His suffering, so that we may be overjoyed when His glory is revealed (1 Pet. 4:13). In the second week of the Prayer Project, it is expected that we should grow in our spiritual journey unto maturity, seek for more grace, rely on the hope that does not disappoint, persevere in adversity, have good attitude in persecution and rejoice as a result of the gains of persecution.
The third week of the Prayer Project is centered on the Power of Faithfulness. To be faithful is to be full of faith; and without faith, it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who diligently seek Him (Heb. 11:6). Faith is the fulcrum for anyone who wants to reign with Christ and by divine arrangement, this topic is in the centre of this project. You must be standing right in a corrupt world like Daniel and Joseph, see faithfulness as an acceptable service, key to fruitfulness and as a guarantee for God’s Presence. You must also deepen your fellowship with the Holy Spirit who is the Help for Faithfulness and be conscious of the fact that our God is too faithful to fail.
In the fourth week, we shall be looking at the glory ahead and run with it. Even in business ventures, investors will always want to know before they put pen to paper ‘What Is In It For Me’ (WIIIFM). This is a normal thing to do as no one will enter a business venture knowing fully well that there will be no profit, but will endure all challenges when he is sure of profit ahead. The glory ahead is much more than any persecution, trial and suffering. Apostle Paul wrote in Romans chapter 8 verse 8 that he considers that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. The person that will reign with Christ must imitate Him on how He was able to overcome persecutions, trials and sufferings. He who is the author and perfecter of our faith endured the Cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God for the Joy set before Him (Heb. 12:2).
Reigning with Christ is the topic that concludes the Prayer Project in the fifth and last week. This is a sure reward for true Christians who walked in the glory of persecution, refused to compromise their faith in Christ because of the glory ahead. It will be a colossal loss if, after bearing Christian names, working in ministries, binding and casting demons, one ends up not reigning with Christ. The consequence is better imagined that felt as it is related to weeping and gnashing of teeth under the government of satan. God forbid, you would say! The time to avoid the tragedy is now.
Beloved, as we begin the 35 Days Fasting and Prayer Project tomorrow, you must take it very seriously. Take it as a preparatory project that will guarantee you a throne in the Kingdom of King Jesus as you cannot reign with Him without a throne. It does not matter how many years you have participated in the Prayer Project. It is possible that you have not arose let alone shining; you might not have set the earth on fire; you may be far from overcoming, let alone getting the Victor’s Reward. But the God of all possibilities can break you, mould you, fill you and use you in such a way that your reigning with Christ will be guaranteed.
*Is the Prayer Project a spiritual exercise to you or a mere annual ritual?
* Evaluate yourself in the last four years you have participated in the Project. Were you faithful?
* Read and reflect on Gal. 6:7 and 2 Tim. 2:11-13.
*Ask God for mercy where you did not get it right in the past Prayer Projects you have participated.
*Pray earnestly to be committed and dedicated to this Prayer Project.
*Pray for the grace to reign over the forces of darkness, evil and sin here on earth so as to reign with Christ at the fullness of time.
